My name is Sasha and I was studying in Ashbury for 4 years. Needless to say it was one of the greatest experiences in my life. In fact, when my parents decided to give me an opportunity to study in Canada, I applied into 3 boarding schools: St. Andrews, a school in Vancouver and Ashbury. I didn't have much knowledge about them except for their good reviews. In fact, the only advantage Ashbury had, in my view, was its location. After studying for four years in Ashbury, I know for sure, that I would never switch my choice; even if i had a choice of any school of the world. So what is so special about Ashbury ? Education in Ashbury is strong; if universities are choosing between two people with exactly same grades, the person from Ashbury is likely to be prioritized. Also Ashbury provides an IB program, which is also highly respected between universities and a little too overrated but still a good addition. The main advantage is that you don't need to do a Full IB if you don't want too. In Grade 12 I took 3 IB courses and 3 non IB (OSSD) courses. As to me it was a perfect balance. Ashbury is not only focused on education, but also on the development of students' personalities. It is an obligation to be involved in different clubs and activities thorough the year. Personally I was involved in a lot of different sports and clubs thorough 4 years. The most memorable are: playing for the American Football team during 4 years, which not only developed my physical abilities but also mentality and the knowledge of team play; Ski racing was a great experience, where I managed to finish in top 5 and MUN, which developed my ability to communicate and be creative. However, personally, I think that the biggest advantage of Ashbury it's its boarding. Thorough 4 years I have made more friends and connections than anybody from Ukraine could imagine. I had roommates from Mexico, Nigeria and France and I have at least one friend from any part of the world. Ashbury Boarding is not only a great space to live in but also the biggest opportunity to make friendships, which will last. Boarding could be compared to brotherhood, however there is nothing as good as boarding in Ashbury. Overall, Ashbury isn't just about an education in a foreign country, but something way more valuable and important than that.
